My children and I absolutely love this book. The life of Saint Francis is simply and beautifully told, and the pictures beautifully rendered. My daughter sat with this book for hours, reading and rereading it, copying the pictures, saying the prayers to herself, and finally asking if I had more books about saints. I pulled out the various Catholic saint anthology books I had, and they held no appeal to her - a page can hardly bring a saint alive for a child, let alone do justice to a life.

So I started browsing Amazon and found a few books, but not many. I sincerely hope Kennedy/Nolan will write more books together, because there is a serious dearth of books about saints, let alone books about saints that are as beautiful, accessible, and relevant to children today as this one is.

What a great book. Wouldn't it be great if all people loved God's creatures like Saint Francis did. I love the pictures in the book too!

Who does not love this Saint.
Really likes this novel. Let my students know that The author was the nephew of the first and only catholic president ever elected in The United States.
The illustrations were wonderful.
Putting a verse of the Serenity Prayer on the story pages was Genius. Have decided to included his Canticle to the Sun in my morning prayers it’s so beautiful.
I bought this book for my niece for her First Communion. She loves St. Francis, and animals so I thought it would be perfect. The illustrations are gorgeous and the story is great as well, intertwined with the prayer of St. Francis. St. Francis is still such a great role model for kids and young adults, for anybody really. It makes a great gift and is so wonderful, I'll be buying one for myself and my children. Love it!
This is a wonderful book for people of all ages. It is full of hope and wonder and teaches us all, as the author's farther did, "to seek a newer world". The protection of our animals, birds and overall environment is more important today then it was in St. Francis' time and his life story is told with wit and grace by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. As one who was an intern in Senator Kennedy's ill fated campaign for the presidency in 1968, I feel a special happiness that RFK's namesake is contributing so very much to make our country and world a much better place.
Generous and Inspiring book with touching pictures that match the style of Francis. Very recommended. There is even an individual picture at the back of the book to remove for framing. A Life of Joy really does come across as a life of joy. You will smile.
